About Nina
Feb 25th, 2009 by wardnl
My name is Nina, and I’m just an ordinary Mom, living an good life . The biggest part of my life is my Jesus Christ. I became a Christian when I was a sophmore in high school. I met my husband in our local youth group after I gave my life to christ, and we became immediate friends. We got married at 21 and have been married for 20 years. We have 4 beautiful children, Macie 17, Mason 12, Merrick 9, Micah 1. The last little guy has Down Syndrome. Like all of our kids, Micah has changed all of our lives forever. God gave all of our children as gifts, but he gave a little xtra with Micah. I was afraid of what a life would be with a child with DS, but now, I can’t imagine a life “without” our little xtra chromosome guy. God uses our children to build character in us…..I started this blog as a release of emotion, and encouragement for anyone who wants to read it. Most of us are thrown into the world of Down Syndrome abruptly, and it can be scary. I hope I can help someone, like so many have helped me. Getting a diagnosis during a pregnancy that your baby has downsyndrome, isn’t the end of the world…it’s the start of a wonderful journey full of love, and joy.
I have many interest and have a full busy life. I’m on a roller derby team(Port City Roller Girls), I’m a carido kickboxing instructor, and I love to feed and talk with Homeless people. Wow, what a variety. My favorite things are my husband, my children and family and friends. The Lord has blessed my life with so much, I can never thank him enough. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may his face shine upon you..

Thank you, Nina for sharing your story. I am a first time mom blessed with a wonderful two month old son!!
Dear Nina,
Great story! I have also been blessed and my blessing is now four years old. His name is Jack and I thank God for him every day. I have two other children, but I’ll tell you, Jack is the child that brings me a certain kind of joy that only we with these children can really understand. I know his presence here on earth makes me a much better person. It seems that people can be uncomfortable at first, but I think they take their cues from us. If we are joyful and sincere, then it truly shows. Sometimes people’s first reaction is one of fear. They just don’t know how to react or afraid they will do or say something wrong. It will get much easier with time Nina. Once again, I really enjoyed your story!
